NAMI-pathos - the need to be special

To enjoy some real NAMI-pathos and -defensiveness, go here - to get an idea, what the whole thing is about, check out "Parents Cope With 6-Year-Old With Schizophrenia" at Philip Dawdy's blog - read the post, then read David Oaks' comment, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 04:34 PM, 9th comment from the top, and then Michael Schofield's reply to David, Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - 06:11 PM, 11th comment from the top.

Well, and then tell me, that these parents do anything else than feeling sorry - for themselves. Drowning in self-pity. And they actually thrive on their misery. So much, they forget everything about being polite (or just pathetic...), and indeed become rude and defensive, as soon as someone comes around, and mentions, in the most empathetic, friendly way, the possibility, that to be in the mh system might not be the right thing for their daughter, and that they maybe should have a deeper look at the matter: "Don't you dare to question the necessity of our suffering to continue indefinitely!!! We are special! Our misery is more miserable than anyone else's in the whole wide world! And we will fight for it! (Even if that costs Jani her life.)" Narcissists?...

This child was beaten and starved by the parents before psych meds were given, it states it in the father's blog "about me" section.

I have a dialogue with the father in his comment section and he defends the use of the drugs as life-saving for his daughter, turning a deaf ear to my advice, and of course not seeing his abuse of his daughter could be her problem!

I wrote the above post with links to all of it, and the childhood psychosis article i found at Gianna's blog, and tried to leave a comment there to alert readers but it didn't go through.

Maybe you can spread the word, this child was beaten and starved and now is called schizophrenic. It's the saddest story I have ever read.

Stephany: I've just read your post on the matter. I didn't know, that they've done this to Jani! I've only read the post, I link to, and had enough after I'd seen the father's reaction to David's comment - that I, btw, understand as completely opposite to yours, in regard to your daughter.

We all make mistakes, sometimes huge mistakes. But I think, it's really like I wrote at FS. It's okay to make mistakes, especially when we simply couldn't know better. The challenge then is to accept, that we made a mistake, and to forgive ourselves.

I know, that sometimes I can sound a little harsh when it comes to parents. - Still have some forgiving to do. - And I want you to know, that I respect you very much for what you do for your daughter.

I'll do a follow-up on this post with a link to yours!

Thank you Marian, you know I fought those doctors for years on getting her off of drugs and fought against them, and look how it turned out. I just cannot believe, when I read that he openly admits to beating his daughter, it makes me sick. In no way, shape or form do I want that man to consider me an alliance that's for sure.

"(child) now is called schizophrenic" to justify a new kind of abuse called medications.
